The following is a sponsored post in partnership with Crayola.
We received our Crayola Crayon Melter in the mail and the timing couldn’t have been better. The next day was DIY Christmas ornament night at grandma’s house!
We had a wide range of kids using the melter – from age 3 up to 12 and they all had a blast. The only downside was that we only had one to share amongst everyone.
The really nice thing about the melter is that it is so kid friendly. You don’t have the same risk of a little getting burned by a hot piece of metal like with a traditional hot glue gun. Instead the “melter” part of the device is fully enclosed and only emits the crayon when pressure is applied to the tip.
Learning how to use the melter on the included practice sheets
The kit came with some practice sheets so the kids could get used to using the device. There is a bit of technique required when holding the melter so that you get the crayon to be released in a consistent manner. But all the kiddos picked it up very quick using the work sheets.
The kit also came with a fun tool that makes it easy to strip the paper off crayons and cram them into the melter.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to how you can decorate with the crayon melter. We decided to try our hand at decorating some ornaments with it but you could really apply melted crayon to just about anything!
Here’s a fun ornament we made using the melter…
We filled a clear ornament with green garland and added a bit of ribbon for hanging. Then we used the melter to embellish the ornament with a giant red heart and make it a “grinch’s heart” ornament. Super easy and fun!
I’m so happy with how the ornament turned out! The best part though was how much fun the kids had using their newest crafting “toy”.
You simply insert a crayon, plug in and start embellishing virtually any surface. The possibilities are endless!
The low-heat tip is especially nice for worry-free creativity time.
